YAKUZA Frontman Comments On Forthcoming Record
April 4, 2007Bruce Lamont, frontman of Chicago's YAKUZA, recently sat down with forward-thinking webzine Sonic Frontiers to discuss YAKUZA's forthcoming release, "Transmutations". Having completed all tracking for the record with producer Sanford Parker (PELICAN, MINSK, RWAKE),the band is planning on releasing the follow-up to 2006's "Samsara" in the fall through Prosthetic Records. A couple of excerpts from the interview, available in full at Sonic Frontiers:
On the album's title:
"Transmutation is the conversion of one object into another, more or less transforming a base element or an idea into something of extraordinary value. We attempt this through our writing and performing, taking something as basic as sounds, moods, etc and transform these into something beyond that, something that will affect the listener on a much deeper level."
On guest appearances on "Transmutations":
"This time around, we wanted to focus on ourselves a bit more. We did have jazz percussionists Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang come in to do some overdubs. That stuff sounds great."
YAKUZA will continue previewing new material live April 8 with GENGHIS TRON and labelmates KYLESA as well when the band supports GOATWHORE on April 20.
